Sickness and Soldiers

September 19, 2010

When I’m sick — like I have been this last weekend — I want the world to STOP! I don’t want to have to think about anything else but getting better! I don’t know why, maybe it’s my analytical mind, but it’s at times like this I often think about our soldiers fighting in this war and in the wars previously fought. What do the soldiers do when they get a stomach bug? They can’t stop to baby themselves in order to get better. They have to keep going!

Whenever I’m really sick, I have to sleep! I sleep ALOT! That’s how I start to feel better quicker! How does a soldier take care of himself? He can’t really sleep! If he does catch a few winks it’s not very restful sleep with all the explosions and noise going on around him, not to mention the adrenaline that is coursing through his body at all times.

I thank God for our soldiers — those who were called to serve in a war and those who stood ready! I thank God they had the fortitude to see beyond themselves and to know what they were doing was bigger than they were. They fought with a purpose! May we continually be reminded of their courage, determination and sacrifice as we live our own day-to-day lives!
